Wichita Museums

Look into the past or gaze into the future at one of Wichita’s many educational and historical museums. With access to interactive exhibits, hands-on experiences and endless fun, museums in Wichita are one of the best things to do in the city. These family-friendly attractions help visitors tap into their own creativity or take a trip back in time.

Within two miles of each other, you’ll find some of the region’s best in the Museums on the River district. Here, you can appreciate one of the top collections of art, be surrounded by 65,000 tulips or immerse yourself in the life of a Wichitan back in the 1860s.

Located in downtown Wichita, The Kansas African American Museum exhibits regional arts and cultural artifacts reflective of African American life and culture. While downtown, be sure to explore the variety of transportation treasures at the Great Plains Transportation Museum including railroad equipment, tools, signs and two locomotives built for the Sante Fe railroad. In nearby Old Town, don't miss the Museum of World Treasures, a three-story museum exhibiting historical artifacts from Civil War weaponry and uniforms to a fossil gallery and other relics representing history from around the globe.

Learn why Wichita is the Air Capital of the World at the Kansas Aviation Museum, encounter an authentic Frank Lloyd Wright house or see one of the original Jones VI vehicles made in Wichita at the Wichita-Sedgwick Co. Historical Museum. Start planning your next adventure as you dive deep into the history of Wichita or walk with dinosaurs at North America’s largest dinosaur theme park.
