WICHITA, Kan., – The world's largest road trip, featuring thousands of cars from the pages of Hot Rod Magazine, will roar into Wichita on Thursday, June 16. The public is invited to meet them along their route and cheer them on as they arrive in Wichita.
The 2016 Hot Rod Power Tour, sponsored by Hot Rod Magazine, is in its 22nd year, and covers seven cities in seven days on a scenic route that includes highways and winding backroads. They will start in Baton Rouge on June 11 and will finish their trip in Kansas City on June 17. Wichita’s stop is June 16 at the Kansas Pavilions.
Before they arrive at the Kansas Pavilions, the public is invited to welcome them as they first enter Wichita at the southeast corner of 47th and Hydraulic.
“One of the really unique aspects of the Hot Rod Power Tour is the thousands of spectators that often meet and greet the drivers as they arrive to each location,” said Susie Santo, president & CEO at Visit Wichita. “Wichita is known for our hospitality and we want to show the world how much Wichita loves cars. Anyone who is interested in welcoming the tour is encouraged to come out – checkered flags and all – to cheer them on as they arrive in Wichita.”
After welcoming them to the city, spectators can enjoy the free event from noon to 7 p.m. at the Kansas Pavilions. The event includes vehicle and vendor displays, autograph sessions with motorsports celebrities, entertainment, food and activities for all ages.
Last year, more than 6,000 cars drove 1,500 miles and more than 116,000 spectators participated throughout the week and along the stops.
