As a part of National Travel and Tourism Week (May 6-12), Visit Wichita hosted a Summer Celebration Breakfast at Exploration Place to preview summer happenings in Wichita and recognize partners who have demonstrated exceptional hospitality.

Attendees got a preview from area attractions and event organizers of what Wichita has to offer this summer like taking a trip back to prehistoric times with Field Station: Dinosaurs, celebrating a Wichita tradition at the 47th annual Wichita Riverfest, enjoying the five Broadway-scale musical productions by Music Theatre Wichita and seeing some of the best golfers in the world at the 2018 Wichita Open.

The Wichita Area Hotel/Lodging Committee also announced its Stars of the Industry award recipients. “We are happy to recognize the dedicated professionals who are often the first point of contact for our visitors,” said Michael Brungardt, chair of the Wichita Area Hotel/Lodging Committee and general manager of Staybridge Suites Wichita. “Their enthusiasm and warm Wichita welcome are essential to ensuring our guests have a wonderful experience, making Wichita a ‘must-visit’ destination in the future.”

The 2018 Stars of the Industry award winners were nominated by area hotel managers and represent a variety of hospitality functions. Winners include:

  • Engineer: Casey Duncan, Hyatt Regency Hotel
  • Front Desk Agent: Jean Mavec, Best Western Wichita North

  • Housekeeper: Charlene Lawrence, WoodSpring Suites Wichita South
  • Housekeeper: Sandra Bustillos, Holiday Inn Wichita East I-35
