Wichita near capacity brings millions in economic development
Go Wichita predicts near-capacity levels at hotels because of weekend activities.
WICHITA, Kan., Aug. 1, 2013 - Go Wichita Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates $3 million in economic development will be generated due to a busy week for conventions and sports in the Wichita area. Go Wichita predicts hotels will be near capacity this weekend because of several conventions and groups visiting the Air Capital including:
- Mid America Youth Basketball Boys National Tournament will use 4,000 rooms
- Midwest Catholic Family Conference will use 1,030 rooms
- American Miniature Horse Association Central Championship Show will use 620 rooms
"Go Wichita works daily with our members and partners to encourage more visitors to experience our wonderful city," said Go Wichita President and CEO Susie Berglund Santo. "When you include the NBC World Series into the equation, Wichita will be a very popular place to be this weekend."
Throughout the week, Go Wichita has been working with hotel partners to direct visitors to available rooms.
"Thousands of guests will be enjoying our community's amenities, and Go Wichita knows they will love what they find," Santo said. "It is an honor to work with our partners to help bring economic development to Wichita."
