Grab a pretzel and a frosty mug of your favorite craft brew and celebrate Octoberfest in Wichita! From the pubs of Old Town to the Midwest Beerfest, Wichita has no shortage of ways for us all to get in touch with our "German" heritage all month long. Here are three of my favorites.
The Hill Bar & Grill
This locally owned establishment melds the perfect combination of a wide selection of craft beers, a menu of a different take on American classics, as well as a great place to watch your favorite team play. From pale lagers to the darkest of stouts, you will fine the beer to pair with every beer drinker. The food ranges from tradition pub food (burgers, onion ring) to the not so traditional (street tacos, black bean dip). With a television in view from every seat, they are a great place to catch the big game. The Hill scores the triple play!
The Monarch
Located at the roundabout in historic Delano, the Monarch offers a full menu until midnight featuring sandwiches, made with in-house smoked meats. Enjoy one of the largest patios in the Downtown area. While known for their wide selection of flavor infused whiskey and cocktails, they also serve a relatively small, but carefully selected craft beer menu which is in constant rotation. Typical of a gastro-pub, everything menu is taken up a notch, topped with things like duck bacon. My favorite is the loaded sweet potato tots.
River City Brewing Company
A Wichita tradition since 1993, this brew pub's refreshing handcrafted ales and palette pleasing recipes have kept patrons coming back. They keep 16 handcrafted ales on tap. Don't come in here expecting to order a Budweiser or Coors as they brew everything that they serve. Their menu reflects Kansas' heritage with the inclusion of Kansas beef, great pastas, seafood and more.
