Home exhibit opens at Mid-America All-Indian Center
Mid-America All-Indian Center

  • “Walk a Mile in Our Moccasins” opens Oct. 4 and is an exhibit of MAAIC’s outstanding moccasin collection.
  • “Home,”opens Nov. 15 and will explore concepts of Native people’s housing, both traditional and modern along with objects of home life.

  • “Cityscapes” opens Oct. 27 in the Kurdian Gallery. This exhibit features paintings and prints from the Wichita Art Museum’s collection that explore the urban built environment. Artists from the early-20th century onward depicted crowded streets, dramatic skylines and towering skyscrapers. Meanwhile, the museum continues its exhibits on rural landscape, “Kansas Land” and “Visions of the Plains.”

  • “Gordon Parks Signature Collection – Images From The Soul,” is a sampling of 11 prints from the series of 50, and five from his body of work spanning 1965 – 2006. The exhibit runs through Jan. 19, 2019.

  • Kansas Watercolor Society National Exhibition is the new show in the premier gallery, Wiedemann Gallery. It runs Oct. 19-Dec. 30. 
  • Acrylic Painting, Ceramics, Enameling, Oil Painting from the School of Creativity Exhibition Series will be on display from Sept. 28-Nov. 3 in the School of Creativity Commons.
  • Mark Arts Faculty Exhibition will be on display from Nov. 16-Jan. 5, 2019, in the School of Creativity Commons.
  • The Youth Gallery will host the following: Wichita Collegiate School Exhibition, Sept. 27-Oct. 20; Envision Exhibition, Oct. 26-Nov. 24; Wichita Northeast Magnet Exhibition, Nov. 27-Jan. 12, 2019.

Exploration Place MoonlightExploration Place 

  • “Toytopia” national traveling exhibit is open through Jan. 1, 2019. This exhibit allows all ages to play all day long in a world of big toys and big fun! Among the highlights: shake things up with the world’s largest Etch-A-Sketch, tour a life-size doll house, build a fort and set the high score in the retro video arcade. The national traveling exhibits are included with general admission.
  • A new show is opening in the Digital Dome Theater and Planetarium, featuring an immersive, 60-foot, 360-degree screen. “Pandas: The Journey Home,” opens Oct. 20. There are other ongoing titles, too, and this attraction is ticketed separately and does not require general admission.
  • Live science shows in the Kemper Creative Learning Studio, included with general admission, are “Science of Sweets” and “Fun with Physics” in October and “Science of Sweets” and “Electrifying Energy” in November.

Botanica Wichita has 1 million lights during Illuminations Botanica in Wichita KSBotanica Wichita

  • “Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular” includes nearly 500 uniquely carved pumpkins. The pumpkins, carved by volunteer groups and individuals in the Wichita community, are lit up for everyone to see from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 10-12.
  • “Illuminations,” runs in the evenings from Nov. 23-Dec. 31 (except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). This annual exhibit transforms each garden area into a different themed holiday display or uniquely lit botanical setting with more than one million lights.
