    As one of our Sales Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to sell Wichita to meeting planners around the country.  You love prospecting leads and leaving no stone unturned to find an event that would work in Wichita.  You enjoy traveling and attending appointment-based trade shows where you have the opportunity to meet with planners and share all the wonderful things about Wichita.  You thrive both in working in the office on the computer and making phone calls to discover new leads as well as speaking to organizations and meeting with individuals to uncover potential new business opportunities.  You excel in discovering new business opportunities and understand that every ‘no’ is one step closer to a ‘yes.’  You are a team player and have a passion for Wichita.  You are goal oriented and have a proven track record of success.

    The Sales Manager is responsible for aggressively selling Wichita as a convention and exhibition site for associations and corporations.  Must be a goal-orientated, self-starter who is comfortable managing several projects simultaneously.  Strong prospecting and closing skills, outstanding communication both written and oral.  Capable of exercising initiative, judgment, tact and diplomacy in a wide variety of public contact situations. Ability to work cooperatively within a small office environment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word. Hospitality industry experience helpful.  Ability to travel.  Bachelor’s degree preferred or a minimum five years related industry experience.  Role reports directly to Vice President of Sales.


    • Prospects for and reviews requirements of convention holding organizations and determines if Wichita is a possible convention site
    • Determines who is or might be influential in motivating the Convention Chair, Executive Director, Board of Directors, or others in selecting Wichita as a convention destination
    • Contacts influential members of the convention holding organization by telephone, email, and/or personal visit as appropriate.  Prepares bid packets of information for convention decision makers
    • Calls on community leaders to use their influence in promoting Wichita as a convention site.  Secures and extends letters of invitation from leaders in the public and private sectors or the city, county, state, and federal government. Seeks support from local chapters or members of the organization
    • Presents sales presentation before the decision-making group to encourage them to select Wichita as a convention destination
    • Encourages organization representatives to visit for a site inspection tour of Wichita.  Then prepares itineraries and conducts site tours of hotels, convention center, and local attractions.
    • Sends sales leads to hotels advising them of dates and requirements of convention prospects who have expressed a genuine interest in the city
    • Prepares slide/video presentations as required by the site tour and/or bid presentation
    • Organizes sales blitzes to cities where associations and convention organizations are headquartered
    • Attends industry trade shows and conventions to represent and sell Wichita as a convention destination
    • Maintains a well-informed, working knowledge of all facilities, attractions and service, both private and public, available in the area to customers and acts as liaison between these entities and the customer
    • As needed, visits conventions held in Wichita to ensure that all is going well, and requests that the group consider returning in the near future in an effort to book repeat business
    • Attends sales meetings as required, while at all time keeping the VP of Sales informed as to the status of various convention prospects and booking activity
    • Works directly with the VP of Sales on input for marketing plans, sales budget, and promotional activities
    • Promotes good will toward Visit Wichita among members, area hotels, the community at large and fellow staff members
    • Works in a cohesive manner with other team members to ensure a unified and effective promotional effort
    • Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license and an insured vehicle for periodic business use
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the President/CEO or supervisor.
