    As our VP Sales, you’ll have the opportunity to lead a dynamic team of sales managers and build relationships with a wide variety of people – from our team, to local organizations, to regional and national meeting planners.  You will provide strategic leadership to the sales and service team and help create and identify unique opportunities to aggressively sell Wichita as a meeting destination.  You’ll love pulling up your sleeves and creatively looking for ways to improve our service to meeting planners and to attract more meetings/events to Wichita. 

    You’ll work closely with the marketing and research departments and other local partners.  You are detail-orientated and enjoy tracking budgets, expenses, leads and using data to enhance your team’s performance.  You’ll inspire a team to exceed goals and you enjoy the process of collaborating to assist in building the sales pipeline and cultivating leads.

    The VP Sales oversees the Convention Sales Managers, Sales Coordinator, Services Manager and is responsible for the development and direction of the sales and services department and its initiatives. Provides strategic leadership to the sales and services team in order to achieve goals and objectives. Aggressive selling of Wichita as a meeting and event destination through direct contact with association, specialty, sports and corporate meeting planners. Creates service initiatives to drive repeat convention bookings.  Excellent sales management skills; able to develop a strong team. Strong sales abilities include persuasiveness and closure skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary, with the ability to present ideas clearly and concisely. Goal-orientated, self-starter who is comfortable managing several projects simultaneously. Capable of exercising initiative, judgment, tact and diplomacy in a wide variety of public contact situations. Ability to work cooperatively within a small office environment. Bachelor’s degree preferred or a minimum five years related industry experience.  Hospitality industry experience helpful.


    • Directs the day-to-day activities and manages strategic objectives of the sales & services team.
    • Creates strategies for selling to a national/regional/state/local client base of accounts including contacts with key planners, developing sales leads, conducting site tours, preparing/delivering bid presentations, attendance at industry trade shows, and other sales activities as are appropriate to book convention business.
    • Develops and implements new programs and initiatives to meet departmental goals and increase the number of meetings and sports events held in Wichita.
    • Oversees the development and implementation of all sales presentations, including videos, bid packets and sales promotion materials, along with the marketing team.
    • Provides timely and accurate reports regarding convention sales results and related data that are consistent with contract requirements and as required for management of the sales division.
    • Maintains statistical data pertaining to conventions held and booked, and their economic impact to the community.
    • Manages, trains, supervises and provides guidance to sales and services personnel.
    • Evaluates all convention sales personnel on a semi-annual basis.
    • Participates with the hospitality industry at a local, state and national level to ensure a high degree of professionalism and industry expertise.
    • Build and maintains close working relations with area hotel General Managers, facilities management, and serves as the leader between sales and service team, the client and these facilities.
    • Makes presentations to civic and community organizations and welcomes groups to the city.
    • Creates division budget to ensure an effective use of funds in conjunction with the program of work.
    • Oversee sales incentive program for the sales team.
    • Coordinates all convention sales travel plans with subordinates. Travel required to major industry trade shows.
    • Develops strategic plan for improved delivery of convention services to meeting planners resulting in greater client satisfaction and increased return business.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the President/CEO.
