Join the Friends of the Wichita Art Museum for a lunch and lecture with Janelle King, community activist, art advocate, interior designer, and entrepreneur.
After earning degrees in business administration and organizational development, her focus and passion for interior design led to her opening her own business, The Workroom, in 2013. The store offers interior design services, a custom home-textile-sewing workroom and features more than 80 local artists in the retail front which offers home decor, gifts, and Wichita Flag Swag merchandise.
She works directly with and in support of the local arts community giving them significant opportunity for exposure and sales both in her store as well as the host of the seasonal 2nd Saturday Artisan Market. Janelle is the chairperson for the Douglas Design District and the founder of Avenue Art Days which has installed more than 60 murals along Douglas Ave. She is also the founder of The Garage at Cleveland Corner, a retail incubator program supported by the Knight Foundation through the Wichita Community Foundation.
A true "Champion of Wichita," Janelle has become a go-to spokesperson and leader for Wichita pride with an emphasis on shifting our perception of Wichita by recognizing the vibrant, dynamic art scene.
