Bold Women of Wichita's Past

06:00 PM, May 15, 2025 | Wichita Sedgwick County Historical Museum

Since Wichita’s early days as a bustling Cowtown in the 1870s, remarkable women—often working behind the scenes—have shaped the city we know today. Celebrate their legacy with the Badass Women of Wichita Alliance on a guided tour of the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum, led by Jami Frazier Tracy, Curator of Collections. This inspiring journey through local history includes a fun scavenger hunt—complete with fabulous prizes!
About Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum, The Museum has been housed in Wichita’s original City Hall for the last four decades. This landmark building was constructed in 1890 and is considered an exhibit in itself. A wide variety of the Museum’s exhibits showcase life in Wichita over the centuries, from the Wichita Indian tribe, whose name the town adopted, to the cowboys who drove their cattle here, to the dawn of aviation and the City’s role as the Air Capital of the World.

The museum collection has evolved from a core of early memorabilia to over 80,000 Wichita and Sedgwick County artifacts from 1865 to the present. From photographs to fashions, business records to furniture, these items help to tell the story of the people and events that have shaped our place in time today. In addition to the professional staff, members volunteer to host events, guide tours, and operate the gift shop. The Friends of the Museum sponsor special events to support the museum, and friends are welcome to participate in these activities to further our purpose of preserving and sharing our city’s heritage.
