Benjamin Britten’s heartwarming children’s opera, Noah’s Flood, returns to the WGO stage for additional performances after debuting to wide acclaim in June 2017. The opera tells the well-known story of Noah and the Ark, and incorporates children of all ages as the parade of animals who board the Ark. Michael Nansel, one of WGO’s most admired and loved stars will reprise his role as Noah in Britten’s beloved opera, following rave reviews in the 2017 production of Noah’s Flood, as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Germont in La Traviataand a featured soloist in Opera on the Lake – POPera: Simply Irresistible last season.
Britten wrote the opera to be a true community event, incorporating adult and youth singers. The audience is even asked to sing along as the chorus during three scenes. The orchestra is a mixture of professional, amateur, and youth musicians playing standard orchestra instruments plus an array of unconventional (and sometimes homemade) instruments that only Britten could have woven into his endlessly charming score. Noah’s Flood is an uplifting and truly memorable experience for the whole family.
