The Plymouth Fine Arts Series presents the play “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” by Celeste Raspanti on April 25-27, 2019. The play will be performed at 7:30 pm each evening at Plymouth Congregational Church, 202 N Clifton, Wichita.

From 1942-1945 over 15,000 Jewish children passed through Terezin, a former military garrison set up as a ghetto. It soon became a station, a dropping off place, for those on their way to Auschwitz. When Terezin was liberated in May of 1945 only about one hundred children were still alive. The story of those years at Terezin are told in drawings and poems collected and published in the book I Never Saw Another Butterfly by Hana Volavkova.

One of the survivors, Raja, having lived through it all, tells the true story of the children. She teaches the children when there was nothing to teach with, helping to give them hope when there was little enough reason for hope. A play reviewer states “Raja's story is powerful, important, and needs to be told as often as possible. This was truly rewarding for the cast, audience and me." (source: www.dramaticpublishing.com)

Plymouth’s Associate Minister Karen L Robu will direct the show. She is an accomplished actor and director who regularly appears on stage for Music Theatre Wichita. Daughters Katie and Francie Robu also have roles. In all, thirteen members of Plymouth will be featured, as well as non-members Ze'ev Barmor, Ari Barmor, Hadasa Barmor, and Evie Oglesbee.

Ticket price is $15 per person and can be purchased at the church office or by calling 316-684-0221. Cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover are accepted. Tickets will also be sold at the door each evening. Seating is by general admission with no reserved seating.

Plymouth will also offer a buffet-style dinner, catered by Sweet Basil, prior to each show. The dinner service will begin at 6pm and the cost is $15 per person. Reservations for dinner are required by calling the church office at 316-684-0221.
