The Plymouth Fine Arts Series presents the play “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” by Celeste Raspanti on April 25-27, 2019. The play will be performed at 7:30 pm each evening at Plymouth Congregational Church, 202 N Clifton, Wichita.
From 1942-1945 over 15,000 Jewish children passed through Terezin, a former military garrison set up as a ghetto. It soon became a station, a dropping off place, for those on their way to Auschwitz. When Terezin was liberated in May of 1945 only about one hundred children were still alive. The story of those years at Terezin are told in drawings and poems collected and published in the book I Never Saw Another Butterfly by Hana Volavkova.
One of the survivors, Raja, having lived through it all, tells the true story of the children. She teaches the children when there was nothing to teach with, helping to give them hope when there was little enough reason for hope. A play reviewer states “Raja's story is powerful, important, and needs to be told as often as possible. This was truly rewarding for the cast, audience and me." (source: www.dramaticpublishing.com)
