This conference, which attracts several hundred storytellers from across the country, aims to further the association's mission of promoting and perpetuating the art of Black storytelling, which embodies the history, heritage and culture of African Americans.
"The National Association of Black Storytellers is the only organization of its kind on the planet," said Jean Pouncil-Burton, Executive Director of the Griots. "For more than 32 years, NABS has educated and entertained thousands of people across the country demonstrating how the oral tradition continues to be a sustainable method to depict and document the African American experience."
Program highlights includ an "Evening of the Arts," from 6-6:45 p.m. and a program from 7-9 p.m. at the Wichita Marriott Grand Ballroom. This event will be the opening ceremony for the conference, showcasing Wichita Artists. It will also include drumming, Negro Spirituals, African dances by children, storytelling and spoken word presentations.
