Sesquicentennial Celebration - 150th Wichita Birthday Party!

The Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum celebrates 2 special birthdays on Saturday, July 25th: the 150th anniversary of the founding of Wichita, and the 130th anniversary of Wichita’s original City Hall, home to the Historical Museum since 1980. Wichita was officially “born” July 21, 1870. Twenty years later, a grand ceremony was held on July 4, 1890 to celebrate the laying of the City Hall cornerstone.
See the original Mayor’s Office and learn of Wichita’s remarkable history in the many exhibits found throughout all four floors of the Museum. Enjoy special tours, crafts, activities and refreshments. Birthday cake and refreshments are served in the Museum’s Heritage Square.
