Tiny But Mighty

05:00 PM, July 16, 2024 | Envision Arts Gallery and Community Engagement Center

The Envision Arts Gallery is excited to host the American Tapestry Alliance’s biennial exhibition Tiny But Mighty in the Patricia A. Peer Window Gallery.

Tiny But Mighty features handwoven tapestries from over one hundred artists from around the world. Limited only by size, artists explore experimental techniques, materials, and conceptual approaches, within a 10-inch by 10-inch scale. Artists have incorporated found objects and employed other fiber techniques such as embroidery and knotting to create unique tactile experiences.

The American Tapestry Alliance, (ATA) was formed in 1982 to unite tapestry weavers to promote awareness and appreciation of tapestry. ATA provides many free educational resources online, hosts educational workshops, and sponsors lectures to expand the interchange of ideas and to help weavers of all proficiency levels improve their skill. Recognizing the need to promote the fine art of tapestry, ATA has been instrumental in creating engaging exhibitions that feature artists from around the world. The organization hosts recurring exhibitions designed to highlight artists ranging from first-time exhibitors to weavers pushing the boundaries of tapestry as it is traditionally known. The ATA continues to develop new programs to serve the needs of its members and increase the visibility of tapestry weaving as an art form.
