07:30 PM, October 26, 2021 | Wichita State University Miller Concert Hall
Seventy members comprised of undergraduate and graduate students, regardless of their academic discipline, perform under Dr. Mark Laycock’s direction. Recent collaborations include performances with operatic bass Samuel Ramey, jazz guitarist Pat Metheny, jazz vocalist Tierney Sutton, the classic rock band Kansas, and the arena multimedia concert Video Games Live.
Tenor Michael Sylvester, Associate Professor of Voice, has performed leading roles in the major opera houses of the world. He joins the WSU Symphony to sing two songs by Richard Strauss, “Traum durch die Dammerung” and “Zueignung,” together with “When I Was a Lad” from Gilbert and Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore. The orchestra also performs Johannes Brahms’s Symphony No. 1 in C Minor and Internet Symphony: Eroica by Chinese-American composer Tan Dun. This concert is an official event of the inauguration festivities of WSU President Rick Muma.
