USS Antietam Association brings reunion to Wichita
(Wichita, Kan.) - The USS Antietam Association will hold its annual reunion at the Wichita Marriott, 9100 Corporate Hills Drive, Sept. 14-21, 2011. The reunion is expected to gather 100 former sailors and aircrew of the aircraft carrier along with spouses, family and friends.
The USS Antietam was commissioned at the end of World War II and saw combat duty during the Korean War. Later, it was used in anti-submarine duty and as a training carrier for Navy pilots. The carrier was decommissioned in 1963 and sold for scrap metal in 1974.
The reunion will feature a special ceremony to honor fallen comrades along with a tour of Wichita's Veteran's Park. Attendees also will take a historic trolley tour of Wichita, dine at the Prairie Rose Chuckwagon Supper, visit the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center, and tour the Kansas Underground Salt Museum.
