When it comes to sports, Wichita has some of the most entertaining teams in the country. From a professional independent baseball team to an interactive soccer team with a growing fan base, there is no shortage of fun and excitement in Wichita sports.
America’s favorite past time comes alive at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium where the Wichita Wingnuts have made their home. This independent baseball franchise came to Wichita in 2008 after replacing the Wichita Wranglers. The Wranglers were a Major League Baseball-affiliated Double-A farm team for the Kansas City Royals. Many are surprised to hear Wichita has a professional soccer team. FC Wichita has a growing fan base that feeds the excitement on the field. Soccer lovers can get loud with chants and cheering at Stryker Field, home to FC Wichita. The futbol club is a franchise that started as a small group and grew into a team worthy of competing in the National Premier Soccer League. The team won a 2015 conference championship and advanced to the second round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup playoff.
ICT Roller Girls
Are you tough enough for the ICT Roller Girls? This roller derby franchise competes on a professional level in the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). There are two teams that go to competitions, the ALL STARS, consisting of team members who participate in WFTDA-sanctioned local events and the HAVOC, which is a team for up-and-coming skaters. The ICT Junior Rollers are girls ages 12-17.
The Wichita Force is Wichita’s premier indoor football team that plays in the Indoor Football League. The team came about in 2014. The Force won one divisional title and one championship title in 2015, the same year they moved into INTRUST Bank Arena.
