All Saints Lion Dance Performance

All Saints Dragon and Lion Dance Team is a non-profit youth organization part of a local Vietnamese Catholic church. The team is made up of young members varying in age, from beginners to experienced performers. Lion dancing is performed by two people wearing a colorful lion costume, which consists of a paper mache, sheep fur, and silk fabric. The lion represents strength, courage, and wisdom. Its every movement is carefully choreographed, blending grace and power, to tell a story of resilience and triumph.
Accompanying the lion are the rhythmic beats of the drum, the ringing clash of cymbals, and the deep resonance of the gong. Oftentimes the lions are confused with dragons, however the dragons are like a puppet on poles composed of 7-9 performers. Together, they create an energy that is both dynamic and uplifting, driving away bad luck and inviting blessings and abundance. This art form has been around for centuries and has been passed down through generations. Lion dancing is often performed at festivals and celebrations, such as Lunar New Year. It is also performed at weddings, business openings, and other special events. It is believed to ward off negative energy and bring good luck, fortune, and joy to those who witness it. Lion dancing is performed all over the world and is now considered a sport. As the lion comes to life, we invite you to join us in celebrating not just a performance, but a piece of cultural heritage that connects the past with the present and inspires us for the future. Today, they are passionate about sharing this cultural dance with you.

Concert featuring Jaelen Johnston
7:30-9 p.m. | Crossland Construction Kennedy Plaza Concert Stage
Kansas born and raised, Jaelen Johnston’s music career began at age sixteen, after receiving a pretty little pawnshop guitar from his grandparents. Now, barely in his twenties, Jaelen works tirelessly to hone his craft, grow his dedicated fan following, and make an impressive name for himself by playing to packed houses across the Midwest.
His undeniable vocal talent grabs attention for its uniquely deep resonance, raw grit, country drawl, and bluesy smoothness. Although primarily influenced by a more red-dirt and old country sound, Jaelen prides himself on his ability to put his own spin on many different genres of music.
Jaelen has written and released a number of original songs in the last couple of years that are available on all streaming platforms, with more original music planned for this year.
Jaelen recently gained national exposure by appearing on Season 27 of NBC’s The Voice, where he turned three chairs during his “Blind Audition,” was victorious during his “Battle Round” performance, and is working to propel himself as far as he can!
