In Wichita, Pride isn’t limited to one weekend. It shows up year-round in the form of drag brunches, indie film screenings, karaoke nights, community festivals and dance floors packed with people singing every word together.

The best part? Wichita’s LGBTQ+ scene doesn’t feel performative. Whether you’re cheering at a drag show, browsing local makers at a market or making new friends at Queer Beers ICT, Wichita has a way of turning visitors into regulars pretty quickly.

Annual events

Pride in the Park

Since 2021, the City of Wichita and Proud of Wichita have hosted Pride in the Park, a community-focused block party. Typically held at Naftzger Park in downtown Wichita, the celebration features live entertainment, food trucks, vendors, local artists, family activities and plenty of ways to connect with Wichita’s LGBTQ+ community.

This event began as a celebration of Wichita adopting one of the state’s strongest non-discrimination ordinances and has continued growing into a welcoming event for all ages. Stay tuned for 2026 details.

Hot tip: This is one of those events where you plan to “stop by for an hour” and somehow end up staying all night.

Wichita Pride Festival

Wichita's annual Pride weekend takes place each June and includes a Pride Parade, Wichita Pride Festival at Century II, drag performances, community vendors, live entertainment and family-friendly activities.

In recent years, Wichita Pride has expanded with events throughout the month including art markets, bar crawls, skating parties and Pridegrass film programming in partnership with Tallgrass Film Association. Check out 2026 details in our guide

Hot tip: The parade route fills up quickly, so grab a downtown brunch beforehand and claim your viewing spot early.

Tallgrass Film Festival

Tallgrass Film Festival already has a reputation for being delightfully quirky, independent and just the right amount of weird - in the best possible way. The downtown film festival features screenings, documentaries, parties and filmmaker events that attract creatives from across the country.

Hot tip: If you’re the type who says “just one movie” and somehow ends up seeing six, the Tallpass is worth it.

Riverfest

Kansas’ biggest outdoor party gets even better when you experience it with friends. Held each summer in downtown Wichita, Riverfest features concerts, fireworks, food vendors, cultural celebrations and enough people-watching to qualify as an Olympic sport.

While not specifically an LGBTQ+ event, Riverfest is one of Wichita’s most community-centered festivals and attracts visitors and locals from every corner of the city.

Bonus: Pride events and Riverfest occasionally overlap on the summer calendar, which basically guarantees an extra-fun downtown atmosphere.

Great Plains Renaissance Festival

The Great Plains Renaissance Festival takes place twice yearly at Sedgwick County Park and features jousting, live entertainment, costumes, local artisans, mead and enough dramatic capes to make your Instagram very happy.

Not technically queer-specific, but it’s colorful, welcoming and wonderfully chaotic in the best way.

Ongoing events

Rain Café & Lounge

Rain Café has long been one of Wichita’s go-to LGBTQ+ nightlife spots, hosting everything from legendary karaoke nights to popular drag brunches and themed events throughout the year.

Expect strong vocals, questionable song choices, enthusiastic crowd participation and a packed dance floor by the end of the night during karaoke events. Rain also regularly hosts drag brunches featuring local performers, mimosas and plenty of high-energy entertainment.

Hot tip: Even if you swear you’re “just watching,” you’ll probably end up singing by midnight.

J’s Lounge

If your ideal night includes dive-bar charm, stiff drinks and belting songs with strangers who instantly become your best friends, J’s Lounge delivers. The longtime LGBTQ+ bar regularly hosts karaoke nights, community gatherings and themed events in downtown Wichita.

XY Bar

One of Wichita’s best-known LGBTQ+ nightlife spots, XY Bar hosts regular drag shows, pageants, themed parties and performances featuring local and regional entertainers in the heart of Old Town.

Hot tip: If you’re bringing a large group and want a good seat, reserve a table ahead of time, especially during Pride season and special events.

Haute Handmade Art Market

There’s no better combination than art, live music and food. Haute Handmade Market features locally crafted goods, artists and makers throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons, including many LGBTQ+ creators and small businesses.

Shop & Grub

Part block party, part local shopping spree, Shop & Grub brings together live music, food trucks, cocktails and local vendors at Naftzger Park monthly from April through October.

It’s one of Wichita’s easiest ways to spend a laid-back Sunday afternoon downtown.

Queer Beers ICT

Queer Beers ICT organizes monthly meetups at breweries, bars, coffee shops and special events around Wichita, creating welcoming spaces for LGBTQ+ community members and allies to connect. Events range from casual happy hours to roller skating nights and community outings around the city.
