Wichita Toy Train Club, organized in 1986, is comprised of people, varying in age, interested in trains and the collecting, operating and sharing a love of toy trains and memorabilia primarily of the Standard, O and S gauge varieties. Club-built layouts have been enjoyed by young and old at various venues over the years. The club's museum has donated layouts ranging from the intricately detailed Bill Taggart layout, set in the late 1800's, to under construction Hadley layout and are among several of the layouts visitors may view or possibly operate when assisted by members. There are more than 50 feet of multilevel display cases showcasing trains and related items produced by Lionel, Ives, American Flyer, K-Line, MTH and others. Additionally, full size train items ranging from dishware to time tables to tools may be on display. Tables and chairs are available to sit and relax while watching younger kids play with the wooden train layouts. A media area allows viewing of layout, train, how-to videos or browsing train catalogs. Have a problem with your train? Several members work on trains and may be able to assist with repairs. Check out the gift shop or the availability of the Crazy Caboose class for kids, railroading merit badge program or upcoming special events. The museum is open every second and fourth weekend of the month. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays.
