Visit Wichita has hired Jemelle Holopirek to lead its media relations efforts as director of public relations. Holopirek will take the lead working with local and regional media to secure general magazine and broadcast features and other publicity for Wichita.
“I am delighted to welcome Jemelle to our strong and dynamic team to help us position our city as a must-visit Midwest destination,” said Susie Santo, president and CEO of Visit Wichita. “Wichita, the Heart of the Country, is a vibrant city that radiates friendliness and ingenuity, and Jemelle embodies an enthusiastic spirit and love for this community that will allow her to promote our brand effectively.”
Prior to joining the organization, Holopirek spent time as a real estate agent at ReeceNichols and worked at KAKE-TV in Wichita for 23 years, as a reporter and longtime anchor of “Good Morning Kansas,” the station’s morning show.
“As a lifelong Kansan – the last 30 years in Wichita – I’m passionate about communicating all the ways to discover and explore all that this lively city has to offer,” Holopirek said. “I can’t wait to connect with the community to convey the important role travel and tourism plays in our local economy. Plus, it will be exciting to grow the city’s visibility and position as a desired leisure, sports events and convention and meetings destination with trade media and travel journalists.”
Holopirek is from Colby, Kansas, attending high school and college in the region, and attended Kansas State University.
