Spencer Olmstead has been promoted to Sports Event Manager, joining the Visit Wichita sports team responsible for attracting and hosting sporting events in Wichita—recently named the 2025 Best Sports-Host City for its affordability, central location, strong facilities and welcoming spirit.
Olmstead joined Visit Wichita in 2025 as Sports Coordinator, supporting the execution of sporting events hosted in Wichita. In his new role as Sports Event Manager, he will lead event operations for a wide range of sporting events, working closely with rights holders, venues, volunteers and community partners to ensure successful event delivery and positive experiences for athletes, organizers and visitors. He will also support efforts to attract new events and retain recurring tournaments that generate economic impact for the community.
“Spencer has quickly become a trusted part of our sports team, and his promotion reflects both his strong performance and our confidence in him,” said Josh Howell, vice president of sports development at Visit Wichita. “As Wichita continues to host a growing number of high-profile sporting events, Spencer’s operational expertise and passion for sports will be instrumental in ensuring these events run smoothly and leave a lasting impression.”
In 2026, Wichita will host a robust calendar of sporting events ranging from youth and amateur championships to national tournaments, all contributing millions of dollars in economic impact through hotel stays, dining, shopping and local attractions. Olmstead will play a key role in overseeing event logistics and execution for these events, helping reinforce Wichita’s reputation as a premier sports destination.
A Wichita native, Olmstead earned his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from Wichita State University. Prior to joining Visit Wichita, he worked in various roles at Bombardier and served as a Baseball Operations Associate for the National Baseball Congress World Series, where he managed press box operations, coordinated with teams and media, tracked player statistics, supported social media efforts and helped deliver one of the event’s most successful championship nights.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue growing with Visit Wichita and to take on a larger role supporting the sporting events that bring people to our city,” said Olmstead. “Sports have always been a big part of my life, and it’s incredibly rewarding to help create memorable experiences for athletes and visitors while showcasing Wichita as a top-tier host city.”
