Tallgrass Film Festival makes a monumental return in 2022 to commemorate 20 years of stubbornly independent filmmaking, September 28 through October 2. Organizers have worked hard over the years to cultivate and celebrate cinematic art. This year’s lineup includes award-winning films with 53 features and 195 shorts films. The 2022 festival not only includes acclaimed films, but is also showing 38 world premieres.

Festival organizer Hannah Bothner said, “Tallgrass Film Festival is Wichita’s opportunity to see incredible independent films and rub elbows with filmmakers from all around the world. The festival is five days of films and fun in downtown Wichita.”

The films and events are set to show at multiple venues in the downtown area of Wichita including:

20th Anniversary Celebration:

The 2022 Tallgrass Film Festival has prepared a grandiose 20th anniversary. This year’s opening gala on September 28 offers musical performances by Mojo Nixon and the Toadliquors at the Exploration Place Dome starting at 9 p.m. The festival also has partnered with the Orpheum Theatre to restore its 35mm projector to give viewers a never-before-experience of the Richard Kelly’s classic “Donnie Darko” (2001). Bother states, “From comedy, to drama, to documentary, and everything in between, there is something for everyone!”

The captivating phrase, “stubbornly independent,” refers to independent film-makers’ visons and raw talent being brought to life through interactive galas, spirited after parties, and captivating feature and short films.
