Visit Wichita has announced the addition of Landon Arbuckle as Sports Coordinator on its sports team. He joins Josh Howell, vice president of sports development; Jessica Viramontez, senior sports sales manager; Chris Spall, sports sales manager; and Spencer Olmstead, sports events manager, in positioning Wichita as a premier Midwest sports destination and promoting Wichita’s status as the Best Sports-Event Host City in the 2025 SportsTravel Awards.

“Sporting events are an important driver of visitation and economic impact for our community,” said Josh Howell, vice president of sports development at Visit Wichita. “We are excited to welcome Landon to our team. His experience working with professional and collegiate sports organizations, combined with his passion for Wichita, will help us continue attracting events that showcase our city and create meaningful opportunities for visitors and residents alike.”

In his new role, Arbuckle will support efforts to market Wichita to sports planners and rights holders nationwide and assist with sports event operations. His responsibilities include providing administrative and project coordination for the sports team, assisting with events hosted in Wichita, recruiting and coordinating volunteers and promoting the city as an ideal destination for tournaments, championships and sporting events of all sizes.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to help grow Wichita’s reputation as a sports destination,” said Arbuckle. “Having grown up in the Wichita area and seeing firsthand the impact sports have on bringing people together, I look forward to helping attract events that benefit our community and showcase everything Wichita has to offer.”

Arbuckle recently graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and sports management. During his time at KU, he gained hands-on experience with Kansas Athletics, assisting with game-day operations, fan engagement initiatives, community outreach and sponsorship activations. He also served as an Account Executive for the Wichita Wind Surge, where he developed client relationships, supported game-day operations and represented the organization throughout the community.

In addition, Arbuckle completed an internship with Sporting Kansas City, where he worked in ticket sales and fan services, helping enhance the game-day experience while utilizing customer relationship management platforms and researching revenue-generating strategies. His background spans collegiate athletics, professional sports and customer engagement, providing a strong foundation for supporting Wichita's thriving sports tourism industry.

“Wichita has a tremendous sports community and a proven track record of hosting successful events,” Arbuckle added. “I’m eager to work alongside our partners and help bring new opportunities to the city while creating memorable experiences for athletes, fans and visitors.”
