Wichita offers a variety of sensory-friendly attractions that cater to individuals with sensory sensitivities, ensuring enjoyable experiences for all visitors.
There are a variety of resources available to assist those who have a sensory need or invisible disability – individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), autism or dementia – just to name a few. One such resource is KultureCity. The organization offers an app and a website to help explorers find Sensory Inclusive™ certified Locations. There are three in Wichita: Exploration Place, INTRUST Bank Arena and Sedgwick County Zoo. Let’s explore these places and other sensory-friendly spots in Wichita.
Exploration Place
As Kansas' premier science center, Exploration Place features interactive exhibits, engaging adventures, and a dome theater showcasing fascinating films. A highlight is the Sensory Garden, which offers planter boxes and water features for a calming, hands-on experience. The garden has a place to sit, relax and enjoy the view of the Arkansas River. Visitors can also borrow sensory bags during their visit.
INTRUST Bank Arena
Hosting events from Wichita Thunder hockey games to major concerts, INTRUST Bank Arena can accommodate thousands, leading to elevated noise levels. To assist guests with sensory sensitivities, the arena provides a sensory room and offers sensory bags equipped with noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools and more..
Sedgwick County Zoo
Ranked among the nation's largest zoos, Sedgwick County Zoo houses more than 3,000 animals across nearly 400 species. The expansive 250-acre setting includes designated quiet areas for relaxation. Sensory bags are available for checkout at the ticket windows, enhancing the visitor experience. You can return them to the gift shop as you exit.
Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport
Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport is a participant of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program, a global initiative aimed at providing support and assistance to travelers with hidden disabilities. The program enables individuals to discreetly indicate that they have a non-visible disability and may need additional assistance, understanding or more time. By wearing a Sunflower lanyard, pin, wristband or retractable Sunflower ID card, a traveler can communicate their needs without disclosing their specific condition, making their journey comfortable.
Century II Performing Arts and Convention Center
Century II Performing Arts and Convention Center recently introduced sensory packs to enhance inclusivity for patrons with sensory sensitivities. Debuting during the five-day run of “Beetlejuice the Musical,” these packs will be available at all ticketed events moving forward. Each pack includes a pop-it fidget toy, earplugs, a lollipop and a sanitizing wipe to provide comfort and support. Guests can pick up a free sensory pack at the box office on a first-come, first-served basis and keep it for future use.

The museum offers sensory bags for checkout at the front desk and provides various camps and story times throughout the year. The PLAY area on the lower level is specifically designed for children, featuring toys, books and art supplies.
