Wichita Artists Invited to Create America 250 Poster

America will celebrate a major milestone in 2026: the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. As communities across the country prepare to commemorate the occasion, Wichita artists have an opportunity to help tell our city’s story.

What is the Freedom 250 City Art Poster Project?

The Freedom 250 City Art Poster Project, organized by the U.S. Conference of Mayors in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, invites participating cities to create original posters celebrating their local history, community identity and hopes for the future. The project is part of the Mayor’s Institute on City Design, a leadership initiative of the two organizations.

    How to participate

Artists interested in representing Wichita should keep these requirements in mind:

Artists must be a resident of the City of Wichita.

All ages and artistic abilities are encouraged to participate.

The words “America 250” and “Wichita, Kansas” must be included in the design.

City of Wichita Division of Arts and Cultural Services staff will review submissions for compliance with project requirements. Mayor Wu will select the winning design, which will be submitted to the U.S. Conference of Mayors for potential inclusion in national displays and publications associated with America 250.

Deadline to submit is Wednesday, October 28th at 11:59 p.m. to the City of Wichita. The final design will be selected and submitted to the national contest by Friday, November 6th.

Submissions and more information here can be found here:
